Live at St Luke’s aims to bring together local youth bands and their fans in a safe and encouraging environment.
It’s a new initiative, trialled during the St Luke’s Mission Week in March 2024, and is now a regular half-termly event.
The event on Saturday 19th October 2024 featured three bands from various Watford schools: gentle rock from an all-girls band, Slackie, funky music from The Dilettantes and heavy rock from Train Wrecker. It was well attended by family supporters and peer group fans who enjoyed both the musicianship and the atmosphere.
The aim is not only to encourage the musicians by offering them a venue at which to perform, but also to involve teenagers in operating the sound and lighting and running the café.
The hope is that a Live at St Luke’s house band will, in time, be formed and will play at each event, introducing elements of Christian music, and playing occasionally for the congregation.
