On 16th November, 40 of us at St Luke’s joined in with Tearfund’s The Big Quiz Night event.
The evening started with a lovely meal together and then the teams had a go at Tearfund’s quiz video. The competition was fierce, the laughter loud and eventually Slice of Pi narrowly won for the third year! We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and raised nearly £500. Across the UK £139,100 was raised by nearly 300 churches and 11,000 quizzers!
The money raised will support Tearfund’s Transforming Communities programme, helping local churches around the world lead their communities out of extreme poverty and into a sustainable future. It supports people like Julius in South Sudan, who listened to Tearfund’s training on Hope FM, a local radio station, and learned how to use new farming methods to earn a steady income. “Without this training, we would still be stuck in our old lifestyle,” says Julius. “We had no idea how to transform the soil to produce more. [Tearfund’s training] has inspired me to discover what is within our environment.”
So, the challenge for us all is to support Tearfund’s The Big Quiz Night in 2025 and find a team who can beat Slice of Pi and win the coveted cup!
