Esther – The Play with Songs

No expense was spared when procuring some of the best acting talent in Watford! The play was written and produced by our Reader, Pam Norman.

As many will know, the Jewish festival of Purim is celebrated each year, to remember the saving of the Jews from a plot by the Royal Vizier, Haman, who sought to destroy them. Queen Esther was able to use her position and influence to thwart Haman’s plot. The account of this can be found in the book of Esther, chapters 1–10 in the Old Testament of the Bible.

A matinee was performed on Saturday 17th February to show the complete production and the audience loved it! There were plenty of boos and hisses when Haman appeared on stage. Pam was presented with a bouquet at the end with the thanks of everyone for making it all happen.

The costumes were provided and supervised by Charlotte Prosser.

Twenty-seven members of St Luke’s took part (adults and children), technical support was given by Tim Whittaker and the AV team and many other people were involved in props, scenery, make-up, stage management, etc.

What fun we all had being a part of it. Many thanks to everyone involved. It chased away the January blues for the cast and audience.

The whole production team worked hard to bring together this dramatised version of the book of Esther, keeping as close to the original account as possible, though some artistic licence was used. For the original unabridged version of the story, read the book of Esther in the Bible!
