For a strong building you need firm foundations, it is the same with our faith. For a strong faith, on which to build our lives, we need strong foundations. Summer camps and festivals are a way of ensuring those foundations remain firm. They give us space and time to reflect on scripture, pray, worship, and spend time with other Christians. Deuteronomy 4:9 says 'do not forget the things your eyes have seen and let them slip from your heart'. A living faith is more than head knowledge - it is also about experience and allowing faith to build, grow and be part of our inner being and lives. Now we're back from the summer and work, college, school, busyness starts again, how are we going to continue to ensure those foundations remain firm? I suggest look back to what God has done and those moments you felt close to Him, and write them down. Look ahead and, realistically, resolve to spend time in prayer, in Bible reading, in a small group (Life Group or prayer group), and seek to change one or two habits. Also approach life and faith in a child-like manner with humility, honesty, trustingly, short memories, and fun. Allow the Spirit to grow our lives on those firm foundations of faith.
