Bible Text: Genesis 1:1-5, 26-2:4; 2 Timothy 3:10-17 |

"Relationship" is the key thread that runs through scripture; the inter-relationship between God, humanity and the world. As humans we are made to be in relationship with God and with others. The Bible has 66 books of different types (song, history, poem, letter, story), written over many centuries, by many authors into different contexts. All scripture is true, but we need to know something of the type and context of the book to understand the 'type of truth' it is proclaiming. What unites these books (2 Timothy 3:16) is that all scripture is inspired by God, teaches us, and shows us what is true and right. The full drama of scripture can be broken down into 6 parts: Creation, Fall, Israel, Christ, Church, Return. And we start the series with Creation: God creates His kingdom. Put in simple terms Science answers 'how?' questions, and Faith answers 'what?'. Genesis 1 is not a scientific textbook but does teach us about the majesty of God, the mystery of the world, the order of creation, the power of God, our place within the world, that God is the source of goodness, and that life has a rhythm. When we understand that we can start to see the relationship between God and His world, humanity and God, and humanities relationship with this world God has made.
