Reality TV has made us suspicious about the truth we see on our TV screens. 'Fake news' has dominated much of our news and politics recently. In this skeptical age what are we to make of 'The Transfiguration' from our Matthew 17 reading? The principal aim of such accounts is to show us the significance of such events, rather than a blow by blow account. The Transfiguration lifts the veil on the true nature of Jesus, yes fully human but also within him the deep life of God. The question we then ask ourselves is 'how does that truth land with us'? In the words of CS Lewis either Jesus is a madman, something worse, or the Son of God. v7 says 'Jesus came and touched then saying, "get up and do not be afraid"'. Our lives are more than what is happening on the surface. Do we allow Christ to touch the whole of our lives, also they are illuminated and transformed by him? Is all that we do shot through with the presence of God?
