Scripture is full of different types of prayer: Abraham praying for Lot, Elijah on Mt Carmel, Hannah for a child, Joshua for the sun to stand still, Jesus in the garden, Paul for God to remove the thorn from his side, and many more. Psalm 143 sees David in a dark place and he cries out to God in prayer. While the Psalm may seem bleak it still speaks of God's light bursting into David's dark situation. In Acts we see God affirm David as 'a man after my own heart, he will do everything I want him to do". But here David is knows he has sinned against God. In Psalm 143 we can learn the heart of prayer from David; a repentant heart (v1-2), a trusting heart (v3-6), a longing heart (v7-12). This advent let us spend time coming before God and learning again the heart of prayer: a repentant heart, a trusting heart, a longing heart.
