Natural Evangelism - "What is the news?" - Col 1:15-23 & John 1:10-14
News recently has been significant: President Trump, Prime Minister's Brexit Speech, Northern Ireland Elections, and more. News is often portrayed as 'us v them', 'winners & losers'. But actually even those we don't agree with are simply being people like us, fallen and broken, imperfect and with hangups, but trying their best.
Colossians reading says that that Christ is above and before all things, and that God is seeking to make peace through Him. John says 'to all (brexiters & remainers, democrats & republicans, protestants & catholics) who received Jesus and believed in his name he gave the right to become children of God".
The real news is the Good news of Jesus Christ.
Two problems really exist in our sharing this news and in people receiving this news: misconceptions and miscommunications. Misconception about God and about rules: Jesus is the image of God, so look to Jesus and we see what God is like; Christianity is about following rules it is about believing in Christ, and receiving him. Each of needs a simple, memorable, short way of explaining the gospel, for when we're asked (e.g. 4 D's: Design - Disorder - Deliverance - Decision).
In the end faith is not about what you know, but who you know, and sharing our faith is about introducing family, friends, colleagues and more to Christ, who has transformed our lives and can transform theirs.
