The Archdeacon of St Albans, the Venerable Jonathan Smith, preaches on Jesus the Good Shepherd.
Our image of Jesus as the Good Shepherd is romanticised. In the 1st century AD, shepherding was a hazardous occupation, it was a matter of life and death for the sheep.
The shepherd's sheep knew intimately the call of their shepherd.
Do we recognise the voice of Jesus calling out to us to lead us to the living water?
How do we attune our ears to hear the voice of Jesus?
- Regular daily prayer
- Faithful and regular receiving of Holy Communion
- Diligent study of God's Word
- Fellowship and mutual support of Christians
- Acts of kindness and mercy towards one another
The readings used in this service were:
- John 10:1-16
- Acts 2:42-47
