Grace looks at Isaiah 44 continuing our lectionary series on the second part of the book of Isaiah (chapters 40-55).
Do we create our own gods, carve our own idols, to be in control, to be self-sufficient? But God says these idols are futile, they can't forgive, they can't save, they can't set us free. Our devotion to idols things is mis-placed devotion. We must be devoted and focussed on the creator not the created.
Our response is to recognise those things that we devote ourselves and our time to, to confess the mis-placed devotion and ask for forgiveness so that we can remain focussed on our Creator.
