Most people when they have something very valuable they lock it away. Governments place valuables in vaults like Fort Knox. We are God's most valuable and precious in God's eyes "You are precious and honoured in my sight" Isaiah 43:4. But rather than locking us away safely He sends us out into the world. But He doesn't send us out unprotected. Jesus prays that the Father will 'protect us', and 'sanctify us', we are to be 'in the world but not of the world', and 'not conforming to the pattern of the world'. Sanctification is simply means 'set apart'. We are set apart to be God's missionaries, ambassadors, and salt and light in this world. The danger is we simply blend into the background, but we're asked to be different, sanctified. We are different through Christ, and our relationship with Him, through the God's Spirit living within us, and through knowing and living by God's world. One of our values must be to live this sanctified life, in the world but not of the world.
