Good News v Fake News

Bible Text: Isaiah 9.2-7; Luke 2:1-14 |

The word of the year for 2017 is "Fake News" - deliberate misinformation or hoaxes intended to mislead. The word of the year for 2016 was "Post Truth" - where emotions prevail over facts and logical arguments. With this background in mind what do people make of the angels words: "I bring you good news of great joy that will be for you and all people ....". Christmas is good news, not fake news, and is for all people, is the truth. The words of the angels suggest 4 things:
"Don't be afraid" - Christ is coming to remove our fear and uncertainty
"Good news" - Go comes to meet us in our mess
"Great joy" - this is an inner joy that is deep seated and enriching
"For all people" - it is for everyone, not a select group
Some people believe and some are still 'walking in darkness' (Isaiah 9). Culture says we live in a world of "Post Truth" and there is no such thing as 'good news'. Christmas challenges that. What's your choice? - good news or fake news? truth or post-truth?
