God gives us a choice in life - just accept the mundane and ordinary and drift through life, or to make a stand and make a difference for Christ. He invites us to step into this new life and he equips us for it. Romans 7 is about putting to death the old life, and Romans 8 is about stepping into this new way, this new life, equipped by the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:9-10 says everyone who accept Christ as Lord has the Spirit of God living in them, the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. Romans 8:12-17 uses the imagery of adoption into a new family, to confirm this new relationship through His Spirit that we have with God. We should not be timid and shy as the have the Spirit living in us who gives us the words and actions we need, when we need them - as we see with Peter in his great speech at Pentecost - a transformation in him from the uneducated fisherman, who so often puts his foot in it, to the eloquent, speaker and more than 3000 people become Christians. The same Spirit lives in us and equips us too.
