In John 1 we have no traditional account of the Christmas story; no angels, shepherds, stars or stables – the focus is entirely upon Jesus, the God who has become man.
- In the beginning was the Word….(v1). Takes the Christmas story back beyond the stable and manger to the very beginning (Genesis 1v1) because the story he is about to unfold with Jesus at the centre, is the story of RE-CREATION or NEW CREATION.
- In Jesus, God has come to push back the darkness of human sin and folly (v4-5) by letting the darkness do it’s worst to him on the Easter cross and in this way he triumphs over sin and death giving us a new hope for the future! So finally Jesus brings us……
- In v12-13, the offer of a new power, a new identity. In all this, we can say the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us and we have beheld his glory………so that we might receive the power to become CHILDREN OF GOD.
