Dave Clarke looks at what it means to "store up treasures in heaven" in the second sermon in our series on giving.
Two traps of earthly treasures:
- If money is your master, no matter how much you have you'll always want more.
- It's temporary, subject stock market crashes, property bubble bursts, inflation
The antidote: Investing in the joy of storing up treasures in heaven.
Treasures in heaven are the things we gain on our journey through life in Christ: character, the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5), faith, hope and love.
The power of the gospel is the only power that can motivate us to give of ourselves, our time, our skills and our money in supporting the poor, supporting the community and supporting the church.
The readings used in this service were:
- Ecclesiastes 5:10-15
- Matthew 6:19-24
