Dave Middlebrook starts our sermon series on Nehemiah by introducing 'the man' who has been a model of "Excellence in Leadership". God has been preparing Nehemiah, with his personality and experience, as cup-bearer to the King of the Persian Empire to restore and rebuild Jerusalem and the Jewish people. Nehemiah is heart broken when he hears of the plight of the remnant of Israel in Jerusalem. Although a 'man of action' he comes to God in prayer with praise, thanksgiving, repentance, request, and commitment to God, and then he waits for God's answer. We are all leaders (at work, home, church, leisure ......) and do we follow this model of Nehemiah - action but first coming to God in prayer and waiting?
The other reading in this service is John 14:15-21
