Today in England there are more people of no religion than Christians. How does this make us feel as Christians living in a supposedly Christian country? Is there a sense of despair? Do we question where God is? Or how long it's going to be before God intervenes?
Daniel too felt this sense of despair and hopelessness when confronted with the vision given to him by God and recorded for us in Daniel 8.
Thankfully the situation is not hopeless as, even in Daniel's vision, there is a glimmer of hope, a promise of salvation and restoration. At times when we might feel that it's hopeless and God is not there we need to cling on to our faith and the hope of our salvation in Jesus. As the psalmist says in Psalm 74:12:
But God is my King from long ago; he brings salvation on the earth
