Daniel 12 – The End Times

Bible Text: Daniel 12:1-12 ; John 11:17-27 |

We come to the end of our Daniel sermon series, and chapter 12 is very much in the apocalyptic writing that characterises the second half of the book. The theme remains the same throughout the book: "Despite present appearances and circumstances God is in control, even of the future".
There are 4 observations from this chapter:
1. We can expect tough times to continue
2. People can be refined through fire
3. We must persevere through the trial
4. Be confident that in the end we will receive our reward
In this chapter we see God 'releasing' Daniel; v9 "Go your way, Daniel ....", v13 "As for you, go your way till the end". God says to Daniel, through the vision, that he will not always understand but that he must trust God. In Daniel 12 we see one of the view references to eternal life in the Old Testament, those whose names are 'written in the book' and 'shine like the brightness of the heavens' (v1). This is a foretaste of the resurrection promised by Jesus. The book of Daniel finishes with the lovely promise to Daniel, and to us, "You will rest and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance"
