Like many people I sometimes grumble and complain about the church, but we do need to be careful. Christ is Lord and head of the church, the church is the bodily representation of Christ, and although the church is imperfect and full of imperfect people there is a fine line between complaining about 'church' and complaining about Christ. In Ephesians 2 Paul emphasises that no matter who you are, what you've done, what background you come from, when you accept Christ you are citizens of God's Holy City - here and now! Paul says that as Christians you are members of God's household and He has given us the key to the front door and access to the Father, through Christ. In the eyes of the Ephesians God's temple was the place where you went to find God, in the Holy of Holies, but now in Christ God has come to us. More than that we are now the body of Christ, we are now God's temple, and he dwells in us (Eph 2:20-22). Together, like living stones (1 Pet 2) we are being built up into this Holy Temple, and it is through the people of the church, and the Holy Spirit working in them, that others find God and come to God. Let's not grumble but say: "What an unspeakable privilege it is to be a member of the church of Jesus Christ - His Holy Temple".
