Bible Text: Isaiah 9:2-3, 6-7: John 8:12-19 |

Walking around when it is very dark is difficult, we need a light, a good powerful torch. The bible says something similar about needing light "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light" Isaiah 9:2. But this isn't just pitch blackness outside, that is also 'inside' darkness: anger, sadness, things that are hard to cope with; 'dark things'. God didn't send a torch he sent a son: "For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given" Isaiah 2:6. The child was Jesus who grew up and said about himself: "I am the worlds light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in". Jesus shows us the way to live, he lights our path and guides our way, and takes us out of darkness. A torch without batteries is useless. It is not use just saying that Jesus is the light of the world, we need to follow that light, live by that light, and trust in that light. Jesus is the world's light, no one who follows him stumbles around in the dark.
