Advent: Keep watch and be ready

Bible Text: Isaiah 2:1-5; Matthew 24.36-44 |

Brexit means Brexit! So we were told but as you may all know it is not as simple as that. The Prime Minister has been asked on numerous occasions to explain the process that will lead to the actual Brexit but she has declined. So we don’t know when Brexit will happen or what form it will take. Today is the beginning of the season of Advent and you may be asking yourself ‘I know Jesus will come back but I am not sure when or how’. Matthew (24:36) writes “No-one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the son, but only the Father”. And despite this clear Biblical explanation, many people throughout Christian History have attempted to prophesy when Jesus will come back. The question for us should not be about the timing but readiness to receive Him. Advent for many is about preparation for Christmas but I am more concerned about the second coming of Christ which will have no prior warning. However if you are living in faith you should not worry and get caught up in wild and speculative calculations to determine the day and time of His return. Let us not worry –be faithful and hopeful – All you need is to ‘keep watch’ and ‘be ready’.
