Lent Summary – 2017
There are two main aspects to St Luke’s approach to Lent this year.
Each Wednesday in Lent we will be meeting together in church. After our traditional Ash Wednesday Communion Service on 1st March our sessions will build on the Natural Evangelism Course we have been studying on Sunday mornings, as we prepare for the J.John “JustOne” event at the Emirates Stadium on 8th July. Using material called “Reach – The Challenge” we will pray and consider what practical steps we can take to reach our neighbours, family, work colleagues and friends with the Good News of Christ.
The Lent series “The Reach Challenge”, will be:
|1/3/17||Ash Wednesday Communion||Joel 2:1-2,12-17 & Matthew 6:1-6,16-21|
|8/3/17||1. Ready Your Life||1 Corinthians 9:19-23 & Ephesians 6:10-20|
|15/3/17||2. Engage Through Kindness||Colossians l 3:12-17 & Matthew 9:35-38|
|22/3/17||3. Advance to Relationship||Matthew 22:34-40 & 1 Corinthians 13|
|29/3/17||4. Connect to Community||Colossians 4:2-6 & John 3:14-21|
|5/4/17||5. Hope In Jesus||Romans 5:1-8 & Matthew 25:31-46|
Practical Demonstrations of Love
As well as a time of reflection and study Lent is also about Christian service. During Lent our Partners In Mission Group have prepared opportunities for us to work alongside some Christian organisations and groups in our local community. These ‘taster’ sessions could be for a life group to do together, or for individuals to sign up for themselves or in small groups. Sessions are spread across the week, daytimes and evenings, and with different organisations (including: YMCA, Local Council, Street Angels, Foodbank, New Hope, Watford Schools Trust). The aim of the taster sessions is to:
- Encourage us to show an outward demonstration of Christ’s love
- Inform our prayers for these groups and organisations
- Potential give us a passion for this ministry and a desire to volunteer regularly.
Please sign up using the sheets in the Gathering Area at church and pray that you will be challenged, inspired, and have fun, while serving Christ and the people in our community.
I pray that this Lent we will see an outpouring of Christian love in this community, and more people coming to know Christ as Lord.
